There’s an intriguing final eliminator for the WBC super featherweight title at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tulsa on Sunday morning when Brazilian Robson Conceicao takes on Xavier Martinez.

Conceicao was a talented amateur who won gold at his country’s 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro before turning pro that same year.

The Brazilian went five years unbeaten as a pro before losing to Oscar Valdez for the WBC belt last year, but it was an extremely close contest and there would have been no complaints had the decision gone in Conceicao’s favor.

The loss will no doubt have served as a learning experience for the 33-year-old, but it proved that the Bahia fighter is worthy of his place at the top level of the sport.

His opponent, Martinez, is unbeaten in 17 professional bouts, but this is a major upgrade for the American. Claudio Marrero is the best name on the card for the Sacramento fighter, but Martinez was knocked down twice by the Dominican and may have met his match in the skilled Brazilian.

The WBC cruiserweight title is on the line in Ohio when Ilunga Makabu takes on Thabiso Mchunu for the second time.

Makabu is unbeaten since losing to Tony Bellew in 2016 and claimed the vacant WBC belt with victory over Michal Cieslak in 2020. The champion is 8-11 to retain his crown.
